Statement from VERITY Now on Women's Equality Day
Women's Equality Day is not just about acknowledging past struggles. It's also about addressing present inequalities. Just as women deserve equal rights in voting, workplaces, and homes, they also are entitled to an equal guarantee of safety on the roads.
Recently, we have seen a growing consensus on the issue of crash testing equality. We're inspired and encouraged by the critical leadership our congressional allies have demonstrated on this issue in both of the Fiscal Year 2024 Appropriations Reports. We're also heartened by the public commitment of Secretary Buttigieg to equal testing. It's clear that awareness of this issue, and dedication to fixing it, have serious momentum.
But we’re still not where we need to be. For true equality, we again urge NHTSA to swiftly integrate equal tests and dummies into their 5-star safety ratings testing program. The quicker we adopt updated tests and state-of-the-art crash testing equipment, the more lives we can shield from harm. The safety of millions of people is at stake: it's simply too important to not get right.
