She Drives: VERITY Now February 2024 Update

At VERITY NOW, we’re working to improve women’s safety in vehicles by advocating for updated crash testing standards. She Drives is a monthly email newsletter with updates on the latest news, research, upcoming events and ways to get involved with VERITY NOW. We’re glad you’re here, now let’s get into it.

In this section, we’ll cover all the things we’ve been working on or paying attention to over the last month and what is coming up next.

Future of Mobility Podcast with Beth

VERITY Now Co-Chair, Beth Brooke, joined the Future of Mobility podcast to discuss the need for gender-inclusive vehicle safety standards, and how the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) has the power to implement this change with a simple rule change. March is Women’s History Month!

This March, join us in honoring Women’s History Month. A time to reflect on the overlooked contributions of women to our history, culture and society. This year’s theme is “Women Advocating for Diversity and Inclusion”, so we would like to thank all of our amazing supporters who have helped us advocate for women all year long!

Celebrating One Year of the GAO Report Being Published!

On March 8, 2023, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) published a report on the limitations of crash test dummies used by NHTSA to improve vehicle safety. This report examines how dummies do not adequately represent the risks faced by women when they get into a car. Read the full report here

There’s a lot to cover when it comes to vehicle safety, especially when it comes to women’s health and wellbeing. In this section, we’ll cover the top things you need to know when it comes to protecting women behind the wheel.

DYK? Not only is March 8th International Women’s Day, but it is the one-year anniversary of the GAO Report.

March 8 not only marks the one-year anniversary of the GAO report being published, a crucial document outlining the risks that women face every day entering a U.S. manufactured car, but the date also signifies International Women's Day. Throughout the day, VERITY Now intends on celebrating the contributions women across the globe have made to the field of transportation and advancing our cause in making the road safer for every body, especially those of women. While we think of this date fondly, particularly when we think of the one-year anniversary of the GAO report, we know there is still so much work to be done. As there has been a year without action from NHTSA since the report's publication and findings, when we reflect on International Women's Day, this remains at our forefront.
