She Drives: VERITY Now December 2023 Update
At VERITY NOW, we’re working to improve women’s safety in vehicles by advocating for updated crash testing standards. In lieu of our traditional monthly newsletter, we want to start off by thanking each and every one of you for your support. Our work would not be possible without you, so THANK YOU!
As we close out 2023, we want to share a video that reflects just how far we have come:
As you can see, we have made great strides, thanks to you. However, there is still work to be done.
Unfortunately, the National Highway Transportation Safety Association (NHTSA) recently announced it will not even begin the regulation process of a female crash test dummy until September 2024. The agency had initially promised that would happen this month, December 2023.
This delay is part of a highly disappointing pattern. This is the second time NHTSA has moved the goal posts on this issue. Read VERITY Now’s statement on the delay HERE.
Additionally, NHTSA still has yet to react to the Government Accountability Office’s report from March – a report that said the government’s 5-star safety ratings should use female dummies.
VERITY Now continues to fight for gender equality in crash testing. We are not slowing down. In fact, we are ramping up our communications on social media by expanding to Instagram, Threads and TikTok so that you can further share our content with your networks.
So, what can you do? Please follow us as we continue to push for change. Below are some posts to help you get started on spreading the word into the new year! 👇
