My Crash Story

Sharing your crash story is personal and vulnerable, and can be effective in driving awareness of the disparities women face behind the wheel due to outdated crash testing standards.

If you’re a woman who has been injured in a car crash, we invite you to tell your story through video or a written submission and share why you support updating crash testing to better protect women. Remember, you don’t have to share all of your story and you can certainly keep details to yourself.

Prompts:

  • Set the scene. Share about the moments leading up to the crash. Where were you headed and who was in the car with you?

  • How did your life or perspective change after your crash?

  • Describe how you felt after realizing what happened?

  • Why did you decide to share your crash story?

  • What do you want people to know about you beyond your crash story?

  • What motivates you to fight for updated crash testing standards?

Quick facts:

  1. Women are 73% more likely to be injured and 17% more likely to die in a car crash than men.

  2. Female crash test dummies are not tested in the driver’s seat in 5-star safety test for NCAP.

  3. The technology exists to protect women and can be implemented by the Department of Transportation immediately.
